It starts like this: I was a kid who liked to watch tv, something I’m sure most of you can relate to. My first experience with Bond was quite a humorous one, and combination of my faint memory and my dad’s retelling of this event has allowed to me to articulate this story in the most entertaining way possible.
“Dad, James Bond just ripped a girl’s bra off!”
Long story short, my first Bond film was cut pretty short, and I wouldn’t watch past the first few minutes of Diamonds are Forever for years to come. My first real Bond experience was taken away from me, well, faster than the woman’s bra.
Then came the day several years later when I saw Quantum of Solace. I was with my parents at my great aunt’s house, and while the adults talked I got to watch a movie. The riveting opening scene in the Aston Martin, intense chase across the rooftops, and the stunning Camille Montes pulled me into the film in a way few films had done before (1999’s The Mummy and 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin to name a few). To be fair though, I was about ten years old; Fast cars, fight scenes, and beautiful girls were about all it took. That being said, I am still an avid defender of Quantum to this day.
From there, I only got more and more invested. My uncle introduced me to Nightfire on the Gamecube, I got to see Skyfall in theatres which was an experience like no other, and between then and Spectre I got to play several more of the Bond games such as Goldeneye Reloaded and 007 Legends. I was truly in love with 007.
But…
I was still a weird kid. Despite watching Spectre in theatres in eight grade, I didn’t see Casino Royale until junior year of high school (I don’t know what I was thinking either). Nonetheless, after Casino Royale I threw myself into Brosnans films, and fell in love all over again.
As of me writing this post, it’s been just under two full years since I could actually start saying I have seen every Bond film, a fact that would shock anyone that heard my almost daily remarks about 007 for the years prior. I am incredibly ashamed to say that I have yet to see the original novels, a fact that when combined with the launch of this blog, makes me feel like a fraud. I am also incredibly incredibly happy, because the fact that there is still books to read and games to play for the first time means that I have yet to experience the full richness of the world of Bond. The many adventures I have yet to have with him are just some of the things you will see documented here.
While I could dive into my favorite actor, film, song, game, and so on, doing so would feel rushed, and I am in no hurry to cut down the amount of potential posts that I can make here going forth. I am incredibly excited to be launching this blog, as the idea has been lurking in my mind for as long as I can remember, and I am even more excited to get to share my love for Bond with any and every reader I get. That being said, if I was asked to succinctly explain why I love James Bond as much as I do, I would not hesitate to answer. The one thing I will always know about Bond…
is that Nobody does it better.
Thanks for reading.
